Glassworks Hounsell is a family-owned business with traditions dating back to 1877. Based in the heartland of Britain’s industrial heritage, they are masters of manufacturing. But for a company built upon precision engineering, its online presence was uncharacteristically fractured. Glassworks required support with unifying their brand identity.
Glassworks Hounsell needed a website redesign to merge their various business offerings, which were initially spread across three sites. We created a set of brand guidelines and improved their web user journey. Customers no longer had to hop around multiple websites trying (or failing) to find out if Glassworks offered the solution they needed.
Glassworks Hounsell has two key strands to its identity: a strong heritage in the glass industry and state-of-the-art precision engineering expertise. Therefore, we created brand guidelines that balanced their dual nature, traditional yet cutting-edge. With 50 years of experience and an established reputation, it was essential to Glassworks that their brand maintained elements such as their logo (including a traditional glassblower) and their associated blue. From this we created a crisp, bold colour palette accompanied by sleek, sharp shapes to complement Glassworks’ strong reputation for masterful cutting.
Next, Formation set to work redesigning and combining the three existing Glassworks websites into a single comprehensive one. We melded together a complete list of their products and services so that their customers can easily find anything Glassworks Hounsell have to offer, from batch feeders and heritage equipment to cutting-edge milling machines and CAD/CAM. UX design was at the forefront of this process. Now, customers can quickly and easily navigate between Glassworks’ two key areas: Glass Industry and Precision Engineering. Whilst these are two separate sections of the site, an unobtrusive sidebar remains throughout browsing Glassworks’ solutions, making it easy to see their array of offerings at once and navigate through them easily.
Consistency is the key to maintaining a solid reputation so we knew how important it was for Glassworks to have a cohesive brand image that flowed from the website into company collateral. We became their brand enforcers and provided designs for internal documents, presentations, signage, plus exhibition and event materials. Our communications team give continued support with social media management, marketing and SEO, ensuring a consistent brand voice and making sure that as many prospective clients see Glassworks as possible.
Our relationship with Glassworks Hounsell is longstanding and whilst we continue to offer solutions to their media and marketing needs, there is more exciting work on the horizon. Glassworks has recently purchased their supplier Electric Actuator Company, meaning a new website offering is in the pipeline…
