Content Writing Tips for 2021

When it comes to content writing for websites, there is a lot of different factors that can come into play, and it can sometimes be a lot to remember. So, here at Formation, we have decided to collect our top tips for content writing in 2020.

Tip #1 – Know your target audience

It’s vital to know who your target audience is before you begin to start writing your content. This makes it easier to adapt your content and make it appeal to your target audience. By using industry-specific language and terminology if used correctly, you can show your audience that you have the authority to be talking about the topic. This knowledge helps to build trust and build credibility, and encourage the reader comes back to your site.

So, knowing your audience is helpful to you as a writer as it helps you to find what it is that your audience is looking for online and in articles. Following this, you can tailor your content to answer their questions; ultimately, this will help encourage more engagement from your audience and introduce more people to your website.

Knowing your audience will help you to figure out what voice and tone you should write your content in, this helps you to make the article and blog post a little bit more personal to the reader.

Tip #2 – Spend time to plan your article.

When you sit down to write your article, it’s worth taking a couple of minutes planning what it is you're going to be writing about. This will help you start to see the structure that your content is going to take. It’s also where you’re going to start viewing what order your content works best in. For example, if you’re writing about an event that you’ve been to, maybe it’s best to start working that in chronological order, so you don’t miss out some details that might be significant to the day.

Structuring what you want your content to say into small blocks can help you avoid repeating yourself, later on, allowing you to write a piece of content that isn’t too convoluted and is easy for your reader to follow.

Tip #3 – Keywords, it’s best to use them

Researching keywords can help you to optimise your article and make it appear higher up on SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages) When researching your keywords, consider what it is that your audience is searching for, so you can tailor your content to appear in their search results and encourage interaction.

Using keywords, you can help drive more organic traffic to your site and widen the reach of your article and website. Although keywords can help boost you up the SERPs and expand your reach, it’s crucial to take into consideration how you are implementing them in your content. They need to be woven into the text, so it still reads naturally and doesn’t make them evident to the reader.

Tip #4 – Research your competitors

This might not necessarily seem like an overly vital thing to think about while writing content, but this can be a useful method of seeing what works with your target audience and equally, what doesn’t work. Doing this, you can get an insight into what your audience is looking for online to do with your products and services, along with what it is that they are engaging with online.

While looking for content ideas, you can begin to plan what other types of content you want to start creating and make your online content stand out against your competitors.

Tip #5 – Draft, and Draft again

Regardless of how well we think that we’ve written the first draft, it probably has some room for improvement. It’s important to remember that re-drafting your content isn’t a bad thing. Re-drafting allows you to take a step back and view what you’ve written. At this stage, you can start to see what you could add to your content or what you could easily take away.
